Burrell Twp. Sewer Project Receives $11 Million in PENNVEST Funds, Announce White, Reed
HARRISBURG – The Burrell Township Sewer Authority received approval for state funding totaling $11 million on Wednesday, according to Rep. Dave Reed (R-Indiana) and Sen. Don White (R-41).

The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) approved a $3,670,246 grant and a $7,329,754 low-interest loan for the authority at its board meeting held in Harrisburg, according White, a member of the PENNVEST Board. The authority will use the funds to extensively renovate its sewage treatment plant.

“PENNVEST funding is vitally important for small communities like Burrell Township. Rate payers would face a heavy financial burden if the authority had to secure conventional financing for the entire cost of this project. I was pleased to support and help move this request when it came before PENNVEST for final approval,” said White. “This is another significant investment by the state in the Route 119 corridor between Routes 22 and 422. That support has already paid dividends and will continue to do so as the state, Indiana County and local municipalities work together to make the region more attractive for economic development.”

“The authority’s plant is seriously out-of-date and doesn’t meet federal flood control requirements,” said Reed. “We have seen significant improvements in Indiana County’s infrastructure over the past few years and this project fits right in by protecting local residents by ensuring sewage is properly treated while addressing potential flooding issues that could threaten our natural environment.”

PENNVEST is not supported by the state’s General Fund budget, which covers the daily operations and services of the Commonwealth. Financing is provided through the use of federal funding and prior bond issues by the state as well as proceeds from the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee legislation, Act 13 of 2012.
